Visa Application
Here’s the list of countries required to obtain a visa to enter Malaysia.
There are two (2) methods to apply for visa:
- Through the nearest Malaysian Embassy or High Commission Office in your country of residence. Kindly visit the Immigration Department of Malaysia’s Official Portal for further information.
- Via eVISA on the MYVISA online website. The eVISA can be applied for from anywhere in the world except Malaysia, Israel, and North Korea.
Effective from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2026, citizens of the People’s Republic of China are exempt from visa requirements (for single-entry visa) when traveling to Malaysia.
Malaysian Digital Arrival Card
As of January 1, 2024, all travelers entering Malaysia are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days prior to their scheduled arrival in the country. Certain categories of travelers are exempt, including Singapore citizens, diplomatic passport holders, Malaysian permanent residents, and long-term pass holders.
Language
The official language is Bahasa Malaysia, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas.
Currency
The official currency of Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). While credit and debit cards are widely accepted in major cities and tourist areas, it’s advisable to have some cash on hand for smaller purchases, tipping, and transactions in local markets. ATMs are readily available in urban areas, airports, and major transportation hubs.
Dress Code & Weather Preparation
The dress code for GIJC is casual. Jeans, shoes or sneakers, shirts, and t-shirts are all acceptable. You may want to dress up for the awards ceremony dinner. It can get chilly inside air-conditioned buildings, so we recommend carrying a warm jacket for indoor use.
Kuala Lumpur experiences a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by warm temperatures and high humidity year-round. Average daily temperatures range from 23°C to 33°C (73°F to 91°F), with frequent rain showers, especially during the monsoon seasons from April to October and November to February. Rain can be sudden and intense but is usually short-lived, often followed by sunshine. Delegates are advised to carry an umbrella or light rain jacket and to stay hydrated due to the warm and humid outdoor conditions.
Electrical Outlets/Plug Type
In Malaysia, the primary plug type used is Type G. This plug features three rectangular pins arranged in a triangular pattern. Other types such as A, C, and M may occasionally be found, but Type G is the most common.
i) Voltage and Frequency
Voltage: The standard voltage in Malaysia is 240 V.
Frequency: The frequency of the electrical supply is 50 Hz.
ii) Adapter and Converter Requirements
Power Adapter: If your devices do not have a Type G plug, you will need a travel adapter to fit your plug into Malaysian sockets.
Voltage Converter: If your devices are rated for a lower voltage (e.g., 100-127 V), you will require a voltage converter to prevent damage. Devices that support a voltage range of 100-240 V can be used without a converter, but you still need the appropriate adapter.
