Sam Schramski is an award-winning Editor of Special Projects for Earth Journalism Network, where he focuses on investigative techniques in environmental journalism, collaborative reporting projects, data journalism, and other initiatives. Prior to EJN, he was an adjunct professor, where he taught environmental science, and also worked as a freelance journalist and editor. Projects he has led have won various regional awards in Asia, most notably the Society of Publishers in Asia Excellence in Environmental Reporting. His environmental journalism has been featured on NPR, Undark, Mongabay and Deutsche Welle, among others, and he is a former Pulitzer Rainforest Journalism recipient. He continues to work as an occasional freelancer and is also research associate at Indiana University's Center for Social-Ecological Landscapes and courtesy faculty at the University of Florida's Tropical Conservation and Development Program. In addition to his years in journalism and academia, he has also been an executive director of a food security and sustainability nonprofit in the rural USA. Sam has a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary ecology.
