Sally Hayden

Sally Hayden is an award-winning journalist, photographer and author. She has reported across the world for a wide array of outlets, including CNN International, TIME, the BBC, The New York Times, the Washington Post, Newsweek, the Irish Times, VICE and Al Jazeera.She is a three-time winner of foreign correspondent of the year at the Irish Journalism Awards, where she was also named overall journalist of the year in 2023, and features journalist of the year in 2024.Her first book, ‘My Fourth Time, We Drowned: Seeking Refuge on the World's Deadliest Migration Route’ - about the treatment of refugees trying to seek safety in Europe - won the 2022 Orwell Prize for Political Writing; An Post Irish Book of the Year; the Michel Déon Prize; Il Premio Terzani; and Il Premio Inge Feltrinelli.Her second book, 'This is also a Love Story', will be published in May 2026 by 4th Estate (HarperCollins) in the UK/Ireland, and by Scribner in June 2026 in North America.She is also an adjunct professor at the UCD Sutherland School of Law."
