Penelope Winterhager

Penelope Winterhager is Managing Director of the JX Fund – European Fund for Journalism in Exile, which supports exiled media outlets from countries where independent reporting is no longer possible. JX Fund collects and curates knowledge and data on the needs and the impact of exiled media, conducts research, networks, matches and promotes. It bases its interventions for exiled media on this data and provides financial and structural support. Since its launch in April 2022 it has supported 90 media to get up and running in exile. As a joint initiative by Reporters without Borders, Rudolf-Augstein-Foundation and Schoepflin-Foundation, it is supported by a broad alliance of media, civil society organizations, and an extensive donor pool. Prior, Penelope was chief creative officer and publishing director of Tagesspiegel, a leading Berlin newspaper, and led the communication agencies Scholz & Friends as managing director and FCB as president Germany.
