About

Mohammad Bassiki, Syria, France, is an investigative journalist with more than 15 years of experience in Syrian affairs and the Middle East. He is the founder and executive director of SIRAJ - Syrian Investigative Reporting for Accountability Journalism, which aims to spread the culture of investigation in newsrooms and to provide training in the field. His work has centered on public spending, financial investigations, budgets and corporations. Bassiki produces and publishes collaborative and participatory investigations about Syria to enhance transparency, create accountability and strengthen laws in times of uncertainty. Bassiki has collaborated with Organized Crime and Reporting Project, OCCRP, Lighthouse Reports, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, El pais and Finance Uncovered. He has been nominated for international awards including the Daphne Caruana Galizia journalism prize 2022, True Story award in Bern/ Switzerland 2024 and the International Center for Investigative Journalists award.
