Lian Buan is an investigative reporter of Rappler based in the Philippines, focusing mainly on human rights and criminal justice. She has investigated deaths and other irregularities in Philippine prisons; the illicit money trail of scam hubs; the killing, abduction and persecution of activists and indigenous leaders; anomalous big contracts in government, most recently of privatized water involving the country's richest man, and politician-contractors tied to the infrastructure scandal in the country. She continues to investigate Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs and his alleged death squad. She has a Masters of Law in Human Rights from the Birkbeck College, University of London, where she was a Chevening scholar. She's been a journalist for nearly 15 years.
