Eman Mounir is an award-winning Egyptian freelance journalist, data investigator, trainer, and mentor specializing in climate change and environmental issues across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Her work combines deep data analysis with compelling human narratives, with a focus on environmental degradation, climate justice, and the political and social impacts of ecological change. She has conducted multiple cross-border investigations in Egypt and the wider region, earning several prestigious accolades, including the New Media Award from Bournemouth University in the UK for her report “Black Beaches”, and the First Prize in Science Journalism from the Goethe-Institut for her groundbreaking story “Women Without Vaginas”. She also received two Nile Media Awards for her investigation “Death in the Lake” and was named an Emerging Journalist of the Year by Covering Climate Now in 2024. Eman’s work has been recognized internationally, with nominations for the True Story Award in Switzerland (2021), the Fetisov Journalism Awards (2022), and the One World Media Awards in the Environmental Reporting category (2021). In 2023, Eman was the Pulitzer Center’s Ocean Reporting Network, dedicating a full year to to producing a four-part investigative project on the Arabian Gulf, an investigative project on the environmental impact of desalination plants in the Gulf region. In 2024, she became a National Geographic Explorer, leading an investigation into the environmental toll of mining in Egypt and Jordan. The following year, in 2025, she was selected as a Bertha Fellow, where she is currently leading a data-driven cross-border investigation into the intersection of agriculture, climate, and land use across the MENA region.
