About

Doğu Eroğlu has been working as a journalist since 2011. His areas of expertise include environmental affairs—such as climate change, environmental justice, and the fossil fuel and mining industries—as well as conflict and security issues, with a particular focus on radicalization and the organizational structures of jihadist groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda. His first book, Islamic State Networks (IŞİD Ağları, in Turkish), published in 2018, offers an in-depth analysis of ISIS’s network structures and recruitment dynamics in Turkey, based on extensive field research. As an investigative journalist, Eroğlu focuses on how political, corporate, and bureaucratic actors manipulate extractive industries, the energy and construction sectors, and regulatory regimes to consolidate power—often at the expense of communities and ecosystems. He specializes in long-term, data-driven investigations that demand persistence, analytical depth, and cross-disciplinary inquiry. His skill set includes data visualization, mapping, and multimedia storytelling, which he uses to translate complex structural injustices into accessible public narratives. Eroğlu is the founder of Ortak, (ortak.org) an independent newsroom for investigative journalists in Turkey. Ortak coordinates collaborative investigations and develops new methodologies to expose social injustices under increasingly authoritarian conditions. He also designs and implements journalism training programs on investigative reporting, conflict journalism, environmental justice, and climate reporting. For nearly eight years, he has contributed to capacity-building efforts across Turkey, including programs tailored to local needs in collaboration with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and other partners. These trainings combine hands-on field experience with structured research methods, equipping young journalists with both practical and conceptual tools to tackle urgent global and local challenges.
