Athandiwe Saba is an award-winning investigative data journalist and AI strategist specialising in using data-driven approaches and AI to tackle critical social and governance issues across Africa. She currently leads the AI-powered newsroom initiative at Code for Africa (CfA), developing innovative AI solutions for newsrooms, civil society, and governance organisations to combat disinformation and enhance civic engagement. Previously, Athandiwe managed CfA’s iLAB, the continent's largest forensic data and OSINT research team. With her strong track record in bridging civic technology, academia, and think tanks, she is also a Research Associate at the University of Pretoria’s Data Science Department, actively working on projects that connect journalism, academia, and technology. Before her current roles, she served as Deputy Editor and founded the investigative data desk at the Mail & Guardian.
