Anya Schiffrin

Dr. Anya Schiffrin is a senior lecturer at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and co-director of the Technology Policy & Innovation Concentration. She received her PHD, from the University of Navarra, after writing a dissertation about solutions to online mis/disinformation. Of late, she’s been looking at government policies to support journalism as well as platform remuneration. She is an internationally known expert on AI and journalism, advocating for payments to media outlets whose content is circulated by AI firms as well as social media platforms. She writes regularly with Haaris Mateen. Her most recent report for the German Marshall Fund is AI Startups and the Fight Against Mis/disinformation Online: An Update. She is the editor of both Global Muckraking (New Press 2014) and Africa Muckraking (Jacana 2016) which are collections of investigative reporting in the global south that go back more than 150 years.
