About

Andrea Ho is an experienced media executive, leader, and on-air broadcaster and producer. She currently teaches at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) as Discipline Lead for Radio and Podcasting, and broadcasts periodically on ABC Radio. Andrea has extensive experience on-air and managing broadcasting during bushfires, floods, and cyclones. She oversaw the ABC’s emergency broadcasting during the unprecedented 2019-20 bushfires, and led the COVID-19 operational response for ABC Regional and Local in 2020. An Australian of Asian-European background, Andrea has a deep interest in striving for media to reflect and include all Australians. She designed and introduced a system to track diversity in media content at the ABC, after completing a Churchill Fellowship investigating practical strategies for increasing diversity in media. Andrea’s broadcast career includes executive leadership as ABC’s Head of Planning for the Regional and Local Division with a portfolio including emergency broadcasting, diversity and inclusion, content collaboration, workforce development, and technology partnerships for teams in 56 locations; Manager of ABC Canberra; Program Director for ABC Radio Hobart, and Regional Manager and Breakfast Presenter at ABC New England North West. She launched her career in community broadcasting and held leadership roles in Melbourne and NSW. Most recently, Andrea was the Director of Education for the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas, and co-Founding Director of the Economic Media Centre, a start-up project of the Centre for Australian Progress.
