S Vinothaa is a senior journalist at Malaysiakini, specialising in workers’ rights and investigative reporting. She began her career in the 1990s and returned to journalism in 2022 after nearly two decades in the private sector, civil society organisations and global union movements - only to realise perimenopause had tagged along for the ride. With it, she brings lived experience and a renewed urgency to her reporting. Her investigations have exposed corruption, trafficking, labour exploitation, and the plight of stateless indigenous women. Vinothaa has twice won the Malaysian Press Institute’s Best Investigative Journalism Award, received two regional SOPA Awards, Malaysia’s top Kajai Award, and is the first foreign journalist to receive Indonesia’s Hassan Wirajuda Protection Award.
