Dr Dinesh Balliah is the Director of the Wits Centre for Journalism (WCJ) based at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa. The WCJ is the host of the African Investigative Journalism conference, the African Investigative Journalist of the Year awards, the African Investigative Journalism Network (AIJN) and the Taco Kuiper awards for Investigative Journalism in South Africa. Dr Balliah is the former deputy public advocate of the Press Council of South Africa, and former chair of the board of the Health-e News Service. She also served as a member of the advisory committee member of the South African Media Innovation Project (SAMIP), run by MDIF (Media Development Investment Fund), and of the editorial advisory committee at Newzroom Afrika. She currently sits on the Board of the Ground Truth project, home to Report for the World and Report for America.
