Daniel Adamson

Editor & Executive Producer
BBC Eye Investigations

About

Daniel Adamson is an Editor & Exec Producer with the BBC's multi award-winning investigative documentary team, BBC Eye Investigations. From 2018-21, he was a co-founding Exec at BBC Africa Eye. In 4 years the team produced >80 original docs — investigations that exposed crime, corruption, and abuse by governments & individuals across the continent. These films changed laws, shaped policy, and made major contributions towards justice and accountability, including the conviction and imprisonment of child killers.  At the same time he also created the BBC’s first 'visual investigations' video team, a specialist unit that deploys open source ('OSINT') techniques to expose human rights violations and atrocities. With this exceptionally talented team he made films that won more than 15 major international awards, including a Peabody, an RTS, and a Howard Scripps Award, as well as Webbies, Frontline Club, BBC News, Amnesty, Rory Peck Trust and DIG Awards. The best known of these films is 'Anatomy of a Killing', which he commissioned, wrote, produced and directed. The approach used in that investigation, as well as the style in which the story was told, has been widely imitated across the industry.  He has a track record of managing complex investigations (including undercover) and making documentary films from hostile or difficult places, including conflict zones and surveillance states. This experience was gained over years reporting or filming stories in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. Since returning to the UK he has used these skills to run high-risk investigations while keeping teams, sources, and contributors safe.  As well as producing and exec-producing films, he has been instrumental in designing BBC Africa Eye’s digital strategy, recruiting its talent, creating its visual identity, and training its producers.
