Coco Gubbels is a projectmanager specializing in large-scale national and international collaborations in journalism, with a focus on the growing need for structure and support in (cross-border) investigative journalism. With a background in cultural anthropology and nearly a decade of experience as a freelance investigative journalist, she brings a unique blend of editorial insight and organizational expertise to the field.
After transitioning into software development, Coco honed her skills in project management, an area she has now been active in for almost fifteen years. Unable to shake her passion for journalism, she founded PMIJ (Project Management in Investigative Journalism), where she merges her deep understanding of investigative reporting with the tools and techniques of modern project management.
Coco mentors cross-border investigative teams for organizations such as Journalismfund, Free Press Unlimited, and the Fonds Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten (FBJP). She teaches at the International ResearchJournalism in Belgium and is a trainer in projectmanagement and leadership.
As a consultant, she supports newsrooms in implementing strategic thinking, management and leadership skills, and effective working practices - helping teams navigate the complexities of collaborative journalism.
She also serves on the board of VVOJ, the Dutch-Flemish Association for Investigative Journalism.
