Staying Safe: Practical Tools for Investigative Journalists (2)

4:30pm - 5:45pm on Saturday, November 22
KLCC Level 3 - Room 304

About This Session

Investigative journalism exposes reporters to online harassment, physical threats, and legal repercussions. This two-part hands-on workshop, led by experienced safety trainers, addresses common safety concerns in investigative reporting and teaches comprehensive risk assessment and mitigation strategies. Session One offers a holistic approach to risk assessments, with an emphasis on evaluating and mitigating physical risks. Session Two focuses on digital security, paying attention to encryption tools for sensitive communications, best practices to avoid censorship, and digital hygiene to protect yourself and your sources. The sessions are designed to complement each other but can be attended independently. Whether you join one or both, you'll leave with practical strategies to report more safely and effectively.
